Andersen Glass Railing Systems: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you own an Andersen glass railing system in Fort Lauderdale and a panel has cracked, a shoe has corroded, or a top rail has worked loose, we stock the parts and do the repair or full replacement. Most Andersen glass railing repairs in the Fort Lauderdale area run between $425 and $1,850 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a single glass panel, replacing the channel hardware, or rebuilding a run of railing that salt air has gotten into. We carry Andersen-compatible components on the truck for the most common panel sizes, and we can usually have the correct part matched and installed within a few days of your call.

How most owners find us: they lean against the railing one evening and feel it give just a little. Or a guest points out hairline clouding at the edge of a panel. Or the stainless cap on a shoe has turned that dull gray-green that means the protective coating is gone and the aluminum underneath has started to pit. None of these are cosmetic. In a coastal climate like Fort Lauderdale’s, corrosion at the hardware level and seal failure at the glass edges are the two ways these systems quietly come apart. The good news is that Andersen engineered these railings to be serviced, not thrown away.

Which Andersen Models This Applies To

Andersen glass railing systems fall under their Andersen Architectural collection and the more recent Andersen GLASS+Guard line, which pairs tempered glass panels with aluminum base shoes and an optional powder-coated or stainless-steel top rail. The compatibility gotcha we see in Fort Lauderdale all the time: the base shoe channel width changed between the first-generation Andersen railing (which used a 15/16-inch channel) and the current GLASS+Guard line (which runs a 1-1/16-inch channel). A panel that slides into one will not seat properly in the other, and forcing it will chip the glass edge and void the temper. If you don’t know which generation you have, we measure the channel opening with a caliper before we order anything.

We also see a fair number of Andersen terrace door and window glass panels that homeowners assume are railing parts, because the profiles look similar at a glance. They’re not interchangeable. Railing glass is thicker, tempered to a different residual surface compression, and cut to load-bearing tolerances. That’s why we always confirm the series label or the original order number when we can find it, and when we can’t, we measure and match against Andersen’s published cut sheets.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Andersen, but we install and service their railing lines alongside Pella, PGT, and others side by side, on paper, so you can see what you’re actually buying.

Signs Your Andersen Glass Railing System Is Failing

  • Clouding or fogging inside the glass panel. This means the laminated interlayer or edge seal has been breached, usually by humidity working in from the exposed edge. In Fort Lauderdale, this shows up faster on west-facing runs that eat afternoon sun and then get hit with evening thunderstorms. The panel has not failed structurally yet, but it will continue to degrade.
  • Green-gray pitting at the base shoe or cap. The protective anodizing or powder coat has worn through, and the aluminum is now reacting with salt-laden air. We see this most often within two miles of the Intracoastal and along the barrier island. Once pitting reaches the screw bosses, the shoe can no longer be reliably torqued.
  • A panel that rattles in the channel when you walk past it. The glazing gasket or setting block has compressed or crumbled, which means the glass is now sitting metal-to-metal on the aluminum. Any point load, a dropped cooler, a hard lean, turns vibration into a crack. The gasket is a few dollars of rubber; the replacement panel is several hundred.
  • Standing water at the base of a panel after rain. Andersen base shoes are designed with weep channels to drain, but sand, leaf litter, and sunscreen residue clog them over time. Water that sits against the glass edge accelerates seal failure. Sometimes we can clear the weeps and reset the panel; sometimes the water has already done its work.
  • The top rail is loose at a connection point. The stainless bolts that anchor the rail to the posts or wall condition have backed out, or the threaded insert has seized with corrosion. A loose top rail lets panels flex beyond what the design allows, and flex is how tempered glass fails at the edge.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what our Fort Lauderdale customers typically pay, installed:

  • Single tempered glass panel replacement: $425 to $720 depending on width, thickness (Andersen railing glass runs 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch on most runs), and whether you have the clear or low-iron option.
  • Base shoe and gasket replacement per linear foot: $38 to $65, including removal of the old shoe, prep of the mounting surface, new setting blocks, and new gaskets.
  • Top rail repair or splice: $180 to $410 depending on whether we splice existing rail or replace a full section and match the finish.
  • Full railing run rebuild (glass, shoes, top rail, fasteners): $1,200 to $1,850 for a typical 10 to 14 foot run in a Fort Lauderdale home.

Every quote is written line by line before work starts, so you see parts, labor, and disposal separately. There are no change orders unless we open something up and find hidden damage, and then we stop and walk you through it before touching anything else. Our workmanship carries the Done Right Promise, and we register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before the truck leaves.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check. You can look for pitting at the shoe caps. You can note whether a panel rattles. You can clear sand and debris out of the base shoe weeps with a plastic pick and a garden hose on low pressure. None of those put you at risk.

What you should not do is remove the glass. Railing panels are heavy, and once the shoe bolts are loose, the glass is under its own weight with nothing holding it but friction. A corner chips, the temper releases, and you’re looking at thousands of glass cubes on your deck or down your stairs. We also advise against buying a generic panel online and trying to make it fit. Andersen’s channel tolerances are tight, and a panel that is a sixteenth-inch too thick will bind, stress, and shatter when the sun hits it. If you’re not sure whether it’s a shoe, a seal, or a panel, call us at (954) 280-4413 and we’ll look at it. The estimate costs you nothing but time, and it comes with a written number you can hold us to.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Two entry doors. Showed up when they said, second day was a half day like they said, and the painter they recommended confirmed the frames were dead plumb. The financing was explained in actual dollars, not a brochure."

JJanet R.
★★★★

"Storm door and a new back entry door. Small job, but they treated it like one that mattered. Screws in the hinges are stainless, the sweep actually seals, and the invoice matched the phone quote to the dollar."

VVernon H.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
