CWS glass railing systems generally fall into two families: surface-mounted base shoe systems and side-mounted standoff or clamp systems. Surface-mount systems with a continuous aluminum base shoe channel (roughly 1-5/8 inch to 2-3/8 inch wide) use a different clamp geometry than side-mount systems where the glass is held by cylindrical or square standoffs bolted through the panel edge. Check the base of one post or the underside of the shoe for a stamped model code before you order anything.
The OEM versus aftermarket decision comes down to one thing on CWS railings: the temper stamp on the glass itself. If the panel carries a CWS etch or a temper number that is still legible, OEM is the cleanest match for clarity and edge-work consistency. But after 10 to 15 years in Fort Lauderdale salt air, many temper stamps have weathered off entirely. In that case, a quality aftermarket panel cut to the same thickness (typically 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch tempered) and matched for edge profile is the practical route we recommend. The frame hardware is almost always salvageable, and reusing it keeps the visual run consistent with neighboring sections.
Signs Your CWS Glass Railing Systems Is Failing
- Glass rattle in wind or when you push against the top edge. This usually means the clamp or base shoe gasket has compressed over time. On CWS point-supported rails, the rubber isolators around the standoff bolts dry out and lose grip first.

What you should not do is attempt to remove or replace a tempered glass panel on a CWS system. These panels carry significant weight, and the edges are under point pressure from the clamps. A torque error or a slip during handling can shatter the panel or drop it. If the railing is on a second-story balcony or pool edge, the stakes only go up.
