CGI Window Replacement: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you own CGI windows or doors in Fort Lauderdale and a sash, glass unit, or hardware component has failed, we stock and install CGI-compatible replacement parts, with most window replacements running $380 to $1,100 installed depending on the series and glass package. Same-day service is common when we have your part on the truck, and we’ll tell you straight if it needs to be ordered. Most owners discover the failure three ways: a window that suddenly won’t slide or close, condensation you can’t wipe off between the panes, or a crank or latch that snapped under years of salt air and daily use.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI’s Fort Lauderdale footprint is heavy in impact-rated lines, and the parts are not all interchangeable. We see the most replacement work on the Estate Collection, the Sentinel line, and the Targa series, but the hinge hardware, balance systems, and sash profiles differ between them. Before we quote anything, we pull the model information off the corner label or the original permit paperwork if you kept it. If the sticker is gone, we measure the sash and identify the series by the glazing bead profile and the latching mechanism.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: CGI changed the balance shoe design on certain Estate series units around 2016, and the newer shoe does not drop into the older frame without a conversion clip. A lot of handymen will order the part off a photo and it won’t seat right, and then the window binds in July when the frame swells. We carry both generations and the conversion hardware on the truck. For glass, we match the exact laminated makeup CGI used for your build, not whatever impact glass the supplier has on the shelf.

On OEM versus aftermarket: for seals, balances, and rollers, quality aftermarket equivalents often match or exceed the original spec, and they keep the price reasonable. For laminated impact glass units, we recommend staying with CGI-spec glass. Your window is only as good as the interlayer, and the cheap offshore laminates delaminate faster in South Florida’s UV load.

Signs Your CGI Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Sash won’t stay up or is hard to lift. The constant tension balance springs have lost their calibration or broken entirely. In coastal Fort Lauderdale, the salt air works into the spring steel faster than inland homes and we see this at the ten-to-twelve-year mark regularly.
  • Fog or moisture between the panes. The edge seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Most moisture intrusion happens on the afternoon sun side of the house, where the thermal cycling is hardest on the sealant. Once it fogs, the only real fix is a new glass unit.
  • Crank handle spins without moving the sash. The gear inside the operator stripped, usually because the sash was fighting a sticky track. Forcing the crank finishes the job. If the track feels rough, have it looked at before the replacement crank takes the same abuse.
  • Visible rust or corrosion on the frame hardware. Even CGI’s coated hardware gives out eventually within a mile of the ocean. The hinges and corner locks on the Sentinel line are the first to show it. Once rust is visible on the surface, the metal underneath is usually compromised.
  • Water stains or soft drywall under the window after storms. This is often a failed seal or flashing, not the glass itself. The window may look fine, but water is tracking behind the frame. In Fort Lauderdale, we chase this after every heavy storm season.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a single CGI window replacement in Fort Lauderdale, plan on roughly $380 to $650 for a hardware or balance swap including the part, and $500 to $1,100 for a new insulated or impact glass unit including installation. The spread comes down to glass thickness, laminate construction, and whether we need a lift or scaffolding for second-story access. Some larger picture windows with heavy impact glass push past that range, and we’ll tell you the number before we order anything.

Every quote we give is a written line-item price: part cost, labor, and any disposal or permit fee broken out separately. You’ll see exactly what the part costs and exactly what we charge to put it in. We register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before we leave the driveway, and the installation itself carries our Done Right Promise. If it is not done right, we make it right. No paperwork fight, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things an owner can safely check: whether the track has debris in it, whether the sash is visibly misaligned, whether the weatherstripping is cracked. But replacing a CGI balance system or an impact glass unit is not a weekend project. Those balances are under enough tension to remove a thumbnail if they release wrong. And a laminated impact unit can weigh over eighty pounds. If it drops, it does not bounce. We have been called out to fix more DIY window attempts in Fort Lauderdale than we can count, and the repair always costs more than the original job would have.

If you are not certain what failed, call us. We will tell you over the phone if it sounds like something simple, and if it sounds like something dangerous, we will send a background-checked technician who has done this in coastal Florida homes for years. The number is (954) 280-4413.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Two entry doors. Showed up when they said, second day was a half day like they said, and the painter they recommended confirmed the frames were dead plumb. The financing was explained in actual dollars, not a brochure."

JJanet R.
★★★★

"Storm door and a new back entry door. Small job, but they treated it like one that mattered. Screws in the hinges are stainless, the sweep actually seals, and the invoice matched the phone quote to the dollar."

VVernon H.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
